Strawberries are always in my house because of the kids. They’re little foodies too, probably no surprise there. They’ll eat them straight out of the carton, but honestly, they get just as excited about any recipe made with them, which means I’ve had a lot of reasons to keep building out my strawberry recipe collection over the years. But there’s a difference between the strawberries I pick up in December and the ones I get from the farmers’ market in spring. When they’re actually in season, they taste completely different, and that’s when I go all in. So I put everything I actually make into one list so I’m not scrambling to figure out what to cook with them when the good ones show up.
Over the years I’ve built up a solid collection of fresh strawberry recipes for that window when they’re at their best. There are strawberry breakfast recipes like crepes, stuffed French toast, chia pudding, yogurt toast, oatmeal, and parfaits, plus a couple of savory salads with spinach and arugula. For no-bake days there’s frozen yogurt bark, popsicles, and banana nice cream. The strawberry dessert recipes include s’mores, a trifle, and a rhubarb crisp.
The baking section has muffins, cupcakes, and pound cake, and the drinks section covers smoothies, lemonade, and a strawberry matcha latte. I also added a few tutorials for the basics: how to cut and freeze them, a simple sauce, and an easy strawberry chia jam. If you’re trying to figure out what to make while they’re good, I hope this helps.

Tips for Making Recipes with Strawberries
Choose red and firm strawberries for the best flavor. Strawberries with green parts are underripe and less sweet, and red strawberries that are soft are overripe and contain more water.
Ripen green strawberries quickly at home. Take them out of their original container and lay them on a baking sheet so that they are not touching. Keep them at room temperature and they will ripen in a day or two. Keep your eye on them as they can over ripen quickly too.
Eat your strawberries at room temperature. Store them in the fridge to keep them fresh, but take them out about an hour before you want to use them for the best flavor.
Reserve fresh strawberries for garnish. In recipes like salads, smoothies, and breakfasts, garnish your finished dish with fresh strawberries to highlight their sweet and fresh flavor.
FAQs
When are strawberries in season?
In the Northern Hemisphere, the peak season for strawberries is during June and July, though they are widely available from April through to October.
Can you use frozen instead of fresh?
When strawberries are out of season, frozen is often a great way to enjoy them as they are frozen at the peak of ripeness. Frozen strawberries are great in smoothies, purees, and jams as they have a strong and intense flavor.
How can I make my strawberries last longer?
To keep the strawberries fresh longer, soak them for a few minutes in a bowl with ½ cup white vinegar and 2 ½ cups of water. Pat them dry and then store in the fridge in a paper-towel lined ventilated container. Make sure you remove any spoiled berries to avoid contamination. This will help them last several days longer.
