Meal Prepping Smoothie packs saves money and time!

I started making smoothie packs because buying smoothies adds up fast, and I got tired of measuring everything every morning. Doing the prep once and stacking the freezer with ready-to-blend packs is cheaper, faster, and way more realistic for me, especially on super busy days.
This is more of a how-to than a single smoothie, with four different smoothie pack combinations I rotate through during the week. I freeze everything except the liquid together, so when I’m ready, I just dump a bag into the blender, add milk or whatever liquid I’m using, and blend. It’s simple, flexible, and easy to batch prep, which is exactly why this smoothie pack recipe has stuck around in my routine.
Happy Cooking!

Smoothie Pack Ingredients
Below is everything I add to each smoothie pack before freezing. The liquid gets added later when I’m ready to blend.
Strawberry Banana Smoothie

- Strawberries: You can use fresh or frozen strawberries! If you’re using fresh berries, go ahead and cut them in half before freezing (to make blending a little easier).
- Bananas: I prefer to use ripe bananas because they’re sweeter and more flavorful. If your bananas aren’t totally ripe, you may want to add a touch of honey or maple syrup to sweeten your smoothie.
- Honey: Honey is a great way to sweeten up your smoothie, but feel free to skip it if your bananas are super ripe.
- Chia seeds: Chia seeds help to thicken up the smoothie, so it’s not too runny.
- Milk: You can use any type of milk you like for this smoothie. I usually go for almond milk, but cow’s milk, oat milk, or coconut milk will all work well, too.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie

- Bananas: I would recommend using ripe bananas for this smoothie, so it doesn’t need any additional sweetener.
- Peanut butter: You can use any type of peanut butter you like, but I prefer to use all-natural peanut butter (without any added sugar).
- Chocolate: I like to use cocoa powder for this smoothie recipe! But you can also use chocolate chips or bars, if you prefer.
- Quick oats: Quick oats help to thicken up the smoothie and add some extra fiber and protein. If you don’t have quick oats, you can use rolled oats or even oat bran.
- Milk: Just like with the strawberry banana smoothie, you can use any type of milk for this recipe.
Tropical Mango Smoothie

- Mango: If mango isn’t in season, you can use frozen mango! If you’re using fresh mango, just make sure to peel and chop it before freezing.
- Banana: Ripe bananas are best for this recipe.
- Spinach: Baby spinach has a delicate taste, so it’s perfect for smoothies. If you don’t have baby spinach, you can use regular spinach leaves or even kale!
- Coconut: If you’re feeling up to it, you can use fresh coconut meat. If you don’t want to crack a coconut (most of us don’t), then unsweetened coconut flakes work great!
- Ground flaxseeds: In order to get the benefits from flaxseeds, you need to either buy them ground or grind them up. If you get whole flaxseeds, you can grind them in a coffee grinder or food processor!
- Coconut water: If you can’t find any coconut water, you can use regular water or even almond milk.
Berry Cherry Smoothie

- Cherries: I like to use fresh cherries in this smoothie when they’re in season, but frozen cherries will work well, too. If you’re using fresh cherries, just make sure to pit them before freezing. Read my tips on how to pit cherries for help.
- Blueberries: Blueberries add a nice sweetness to this smoothie!
- Greek yogurt: I like to use plain, full-fat Greek yogurt for an extra creamy smoothie.
- Honey: If your cherries and blueberries aren’t super ripe, you may want to add a touch of honey to sweeten your smoothie.
- Coconut water: I love the taste of coconut water with this smoothie, but if you don’t have any, regular water or almond milk will work just fine.
How to Make Smoothie Packs
Making smoothie packs is really easy! Just set out four freezer-safe quart-sized zip-top bags. Divide all the ingredients except the liquid in the smoothie packs. Extract as much air as possible and tightly seal. Set in the freezer until ready to use.

Ingredients
For Strawberry Banana
- 1 cup strawberries halved
- 1 banana sliced
- 1 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 2 cups milk or liquid of choice, per pack when ready to enjoy
For Chocolate Peanut Butter
- 2 bananas sliced
- ½ cup quick oats
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 2 cups milk of choice per pack when ready to enjoy
For Tropical Mango
- 1 cup mango chunks
- 1 banana sliced
- 1 cup baby spinach
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened shredded coconut
- 2 tablespoons ground flaxseeds
- 2 cups coconut water per pack when ready to enjoy
For Berry Cherry
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup cherries pitted
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 cup coconut water per pack when ready to enjoy
Instructions
- Set out four freezer-safe quart sized zip top bags. Divide all the ingredients except the liquid in the smoothie packs. Extract as much air as possible and tightly seal. Set in the freezer until ready to use.
- When ready to blend, add contents of the bag to the blender. If needed, run bag or jar under warm water to loosen the contents.
- Add the suggested liquid or liquid of choice and honey if needed and process until smooth, about 2 minutes, adding more liquid as needed to reach your desired consistency.
Equipment
Notes
- My Top Tip: Run each packet under warm water before blending. This will ensure any seeds or oats stuck to the container are loosened up before adding the contents to the blender.
- Storage: Simply place all of your ingredients into a freezer-safe bag or container, and store them in the freezer for up to three months. To save space, I recommend laying the freezer bag flat after sealing and spreading the ingredients out. Place each bag in the freezer flat and wait until frozen. Once frozen, you can use an empty soda box with the top cut off to store and organize all your smoothies in an upright position.
Nutrition
Nutrition information provided is an estimate. It will vary based on cooking method and specific ingredients used.
Recipe Tips
- Break up any large chunks of fruit before blending. Sometimes, when these bags freeze, the ingredients can form chunks. Use your hands to break up large pieces to help the blending process go more smoothly!
- Add Ice. If you prefer a more frozen consistency in your smoothies, add ½ cup of ice along with your liquid of choice before blending.

Serving Ideas
- Make eggs! I love drinking these smoothies with heartier egg breakfasts, like my crustless quiche, my avocado toast with egg, or my veggie omelet.
- Pair with oats. In the realm of solid foods, I like eating my blueberry oatmeal bake or my honey oat granola bars with these smoothies.

Comments
Just wondering if I could add the coconut water, blend them, then freeze them into ice cubes to just pop in a cool cup and go 🌷
Do you mean blending the smoothie, freezing it in ice cube trays, and then placing those in a cup to drink? I’m sure you could do that but it will take a while for your smoothie cubes to defrost enough to drink.
