  • Perfect for the holidays!! This festive, holiday-themed appetizer is sure to impress any guest who sees it. And best of all, it’s the type of appetizer that you can prepare well in advance and just assemble at the last minute.
  • A fun way to present a meat and cheese platter. You could go with a traditional meat and cheese board, sure, but the shape of this appetizer gives your guests something to talk about, and it’s a fun way to present this type of snack.
  • Customizable. Not a fan of salami? Swap it out for beef pepperoni, bresaola, or whatever your favorite meats are! Prefer mozzarella to provolone? That’s easy enough to swap out as well. Be creative with this delicious appetizer and let your guests pick their favorites.

Ingredients to make an antipasto Christmas wreath

  • Beef salami: You’ll need thinly sliced beef salami to make your skewers. Around 8oz should be plenty. You are going to fold them in half twice to make a triangle shape. If you want less meat, you can cut a round in half and then fold that half, and add to the skewer.
  • Mozzarella balls: If you can get your hands on fresh mozzarella balls, I highly recommend it for this recipe. They’re a bit hard to find but so worth it once you taste how delicious and soft they are.
  • Grape tomatoes: These round red gems will add the perfect color contrast to your appetizer wreath and also provide that juicy crunch that all good appetizers should have. Cherry tomatoes can also be used.
  • Green olives: I chose green olives for this recipe, but black olives, or even kalamata, would also work well.
  • Rosemary sprigs: To give your appetizer a festive holiday feel, cut some fresh rosemary sprigs and place them in between the ingredients. This will not only add color to your charcuterie board, but it will also add a touch of flavor! You can also swap out the rosemary for other herbs like thyme or sage.
  • Balsamic glaze: You can pick up a bottle of premade glaze at your local grocery store in the vinegar section, or you can make your own by reducing a bit of balsamic vinegar down to a thick sauce.
Ingredients for recipe: green olives, mozzerella balls, grape tomatoes, salami slices, balsamic glaze, and fresh rosemary sprigs.

Tips for making the best Christmas Charcuterie Board

  1. Don’t add the balsamic glaze until ready to serve. This allows all the ingredients to stay their freshest without anything getting too soggy from the glaze on top.
  2. Don’t overthink it. The beauty of this appetizer is that you can use whatever ingredients you want. Don’t stress about getting all the same kinds of meats and cheeses. As long as it looks like a wreath when it’s done, your guests will be happy!
  3. Serve with other holiday-themed appetizers. Christmas wreath charcuterie board is best served alongside other holiday-themed appetizers like a Christmas tree veggie platter or a baked brie cranberry bowl. This will help your guests get into the holiday spirit!
  • Make it vegetarian. If you prefer not to use beef salami, think about adding another vegetable like cucumbers or peppers, some soft bread like mini naans, or even marinated vegetables like artichokes or hearts of palm.
  • Marinate the ingredients before skewering. Instead of drizzling the balsamic glaze, you can marinate all the ingredients together with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper and then skewer them.
  • Make a dip. Instead of the balsamic drizzle, think about adding a dip in the middle of the charcuterie wreath with the balsamic glaze for spooning and serving individually. You can also make a dip like a ranch dip or guacamole.

how to store an antipasto charcuterie wreath

Ideally, you would store your charcuterie wreath in an airtight container or a plastic bag in the refrigerator. To maintain freshness and flavor, be sure to seal up any leftover ingredients tightly when storing. Keep in mind that the balsamic glaze will slowly start to absorb into the ingredients, so it’s best to add that right before serving.

how long will antipasto skewers last in the fridge?

Antipasto skewers should keep for at least 3-5 days if stored properly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make my own balsamic glaze?

Yes! The balsamic glaze is essentially a reduction of balsamic vinegar, so you can easily make your own by simmering down a bit of balsamic vinegar until it thickens into a sauce. To make the glaze, simply heat some balsamic vinegar in a saucepan over low heat and let it reduce until it reaches your desired consistency. This can take anywhere from 10-30 minutes, depending on how much vinegar you are reducing.

Can I make the antipasto skewers ahead of time?

Yes, you can make the antipasto skewers ahead of time, as long as you store them properly in an airtight container or plastic bag in the refrigerator. It’s easy to assemble them into the wreath on your charcuterie board right before serving, so feel free to make them in advance if needed.

Where can I get a charcuterie board? Do you have a favorite?

There are many different options for charcuterie boards available online or in stores. My favorite charcuterie boards are by etúHOME. They make such a wide variety of boards ranging in size and color. They’re made with high-quality wood and look beautiful in any space.
