My Air Fryer Shrimp is So Good!
Air fryer shrimp is something I didn’t expect to make as often as I do, but now it’s in the regular dinner rotation. Shrimp is one of those lean proteins I try to have at least once a week. It cooks fast, tastes good, and my family likes it. I’ve always been a fan of grilled shrimp, especially in the summer, but this air fryer shrimp kind of snuck in and started competing.
The air fryer just makes it too easy to cook shrimp. I toss the shrimp with olive oil and some seasoning, throw them in the basket, and they’re done in under 10 minutes.
Air Fryer Shrimp Ingredients
- Jumbo shrimp: If your shrimp is frozen, thaw it in the fridge! Make sure to peel your shrimp and devein them if needed.
- Oil: Olive oil or a high-heat cooking oil like avocado works.
- Spices: A simple spice blend of oregano, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper is my go-to, but you can switch it up as much as you like. Try curry powder, ranch seasoning, or Italian seasoning.
- Lemon: Cut the lemon into wedges for serving.

Air Fryer Shrimp Variations
- Ginger-sesame. Instead of the oregano and paprika, add 1 tablespoon of minced ginger and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. You can top the shrimp with toasted sesame seeds, too!
- Sweet-smoky barbecue. Instead of the spice mixture in the recipe, use a tablespoon or two of BBQ seasoning and season with salt and pepper as needed.
- Lime-cilantro. Add a teaspoon of lime zest to the the spice mixture and top the cooked shrimp with lime juice and chopped, fresh cilantro.
Recipe Tips
- Pat the shrimp dry. Moisture is the enemy of crispiness! That’s why you want to pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel and remove as much water as possible before adding the oil and seasonings.
- Don’t crowd the air fryer basket. Make sure there’s a little room between each shrimp! If the shrimp are touching, they won’t get as brown.
- Use fresh or frozen shrimp. If you use frozen shrimp, make sure to fully defrost it before air frying it. Because of the extra water, you may need to pat it dry more thoroughly, too!
Serving Ideas
- In tacos, with cabbage slaw and sliced avocado.
- On salads, like a classic Caesar salad or a veggie-packed one with chickpeas.
- In sandwiches, like in a roll with arugula and shaved parmesan cheese.
- On bowls, like a shrimp burrito bowl topped with guacamole and all the veggies (corn, chopped tomatoes, pickled red onions).
Recipe Help & FAQs
Kept in an airtight container in the fridge, the cooked shrimp will keep for about 2 days. You can reheat it in the microwave for a couple of minutes or in a 350°F air fryer until warmed through.
No! I would peel the shrimp entirely for this recipe—including the tails. This will make the shrimp easier to eat.
If you have a smaller air fryer, this might happen! I’d recommend cooking the shrimp in batches for the best browning.
