Lighter Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe!
Buffalo chicken dip is one of my go-to party snacks, but I wanted a version that felt a little lighter without losing the creamy, cheesy, spicy goodness. So I do a “healthy” buffalo chicken dip that uses Greek yogurt, but it still has plenty of cheese and just the right amount of heat from the hot sauce. I make it for game days, family get-togethers, or just for a lazy Friday night with some tortilla chips and celery on the side.
Happy Cooking!

Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip Ingredients
- Shredded chicken: Instant pot shredded chicken or boiled chicken that you shred up is great! You can even shred up a rotisserie chicken if you like.
- Cream cheese: Room temperature, full-fat cream cheese is best!
- Greek yogurt. Go for plain, full-fat Greek yogurt for the creamiest texture.
- Hot sauce: I love using Frank’s hot sauce but any type will do.
- Shredded cheese. I usually use shredded cheddar, but you can get creative with your shredded cheese. Any type will work!
- Seasoning: Garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper are all you need to flavor this buffalo chicken dip. I like to add a little sliced green onion on top for garnish as well!

Ingredients
- 8 ounces cream cheese room temperature
- ½ cup full-fat greek yogurt
- ½ cup hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese divided
- 2 cups shredded chicken
- 1 green onion sliced for serving
- Salt and pepper
- Tortilla chips, celery and carrots for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray an oven-safe baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, greek yogurt, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder and ½ cup of the shredded cheddar cheese. Add the chicken on top and mix well to combine.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top. Bake until cheese is melty and the mixture is golden brown, 20-25 minutes.
- Sprinkle the green onions on top. Serve immediately with celery, carrots and tortilla chips.

Nutrition
Nutrition information provided is an estimate. It will vary based on cooking method and specific ingredients used.
Recipe Tips
- Spray the pan with a non-stick spray. Even though it’s a dip, this mixture will still stick to the sides and the bottom of your pan. I like to use a non-stick spray for easier clean up.
- Shred your own cheese. Pre-shredded cheese usually contains anti-caking enzymes in it that can also prevent cheese from melting properly. For the ultimately cheesy bite, use a block of cheese.
Serving Ideas
- Serve with chips. I love this dip with a bowl of tortilla chips, or even some homemade pita chips.
- Add crudité. Classic buffalo chicken dip calls for carrot sticks and celery sticks!

Can we mix something else instead of the cream cheese?
The cream cheese is pretty essential to the flavor and texture, sorry!
I see the nutrition facts, but I donโt see what is considered a serving size?
Each serving is roughly 2/3 cup.
I just love this recipe! I make it as described, but I add whole milk or cooking cream to desired texture and I use it as a pasta sauce. Mmmmmmm, so good!
So glad you liked it, Anne-Marie!

Aww, that is so kind of you. Thank you so much!
Really yummy! Kids loved it too ๐
I followed suggestion and used only 1/4c hot sauce and it was ๐๐ป
That makes me so happy to hear! Glad you all enjoyed!
This was so yummy but the 1/2 cup of hot sauce may be too much for us! Next time weโd cut down to 1/4 cup.
Other than that, easy recipe and delicious!
Definitely adjust as needed! Glad you enjoyed!
