My Grilled Pineapple is SO GOOD!
We eat a lot of fruit in my house, and grilled pineapple is one of my favorite summer desserts. I usually toss a few spears on the grill after we finish cooking dinner. I just brush with olive oil, honey, and a little cinnamon. It’s quick, easy, and tastes even better with a pinch of sea salt on top.

Grilled Pineapple Ingredients
- Pineapple: When picking a pineapple, the bottom should have a golden color and smell like, well, a pineapple. You can also check for firmness. Give the pineapple a gentle squeeze – if it has a slight give, you likely found yourself and sweet and ripe pineapple.
- Olive oil: This is to keep the sugars from sticking to the grill. You could also use avocado oil.
- Honey: For a vegan option, use maple syrup or brown sugar.
- Cinnamon: Adds a little something extra, just try it!

Recipe Tips
- Prepare your grill properly. In order to get those coveted grill marks, make sure the grill is hot before adding the pineapple spears. To prevent the pineapple from sticking to the grill grates, don’t skip brushing the grates with olive oil.
- Stay close by. Caramelized sugar can go from delicious to inedible in a matter of minutes. Make sure to keep an eye on the fruit the whole time, grill temperatures can change rapidly so you should be prepared to take the fruit off sooner than the planned cooking time if needed.
- Use a grill pan or nonstick pan if you prefer not to use an outdoor grill. The taste will be slightly different, but the pineapples will still soften and get caramelized, so the result is similar.

FAQs
Leftover grilled pineapple can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Reheat on the grill until warmed through or on the stovetop in a cast iron skillet over medium heat. You can also use it cold in a pineapple salsa.
Yes, you can freeze grilled pineapple. Flash-freeze them first in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place in the freezer until the pineapple is firm. Once frozen, transfer the pineapple spears to a freezer-safe container or freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy again, simply thaw at room temperature and reheat.
Fresh pineapple will give you the most flavorful results, but you can use canned pineapple. Keep in mind that the final texture and flavor will be different than fresh. To grill canned pineapple, drain them well first, removing as much excess liquid as possible to prevent excessive moisture during grilling.
Peeled pineapple allows for a more enjoyable and convenient eating experience, but you can leave the pineapple rind if you like. You may need to adjust the grilling time to allow the heat to penetrate through the rind.
