Ingredients to Make This Strawberry Banana Smoothie
- Bananas: Frozen bananas make a creamy, cold smoothie.
- Strawberries: Use fresh strawberries with their hulls removed.
- Greek yogurt: I like full-fat Greek yogurt for the creamiest strawberry banana smoothie, but a lower-fat yogurt or even coconut yogurt will work.
- Milk: Whole or 2% milk. Unsweetened plant-based milk such as oat milk or almond milk work well, too.
Popular Substitutions & Additions
- Make it vegan: Use coconut milk yogurt or another creamy plant-based yogurt, plus plant-based milk.
- Make it a strawberry banana protein smoothie: Add even more protein by bulking up your smoothie with protein powder. I like vanilla-flavored protein powder in this one.
- Add greens: The color won’t remain a pretty pink, but adding greens is a wonderful way work a serving of vegetables into your diet. Spinach and baby kale are both wonderful additions to smoothies. A small handful adds nutrition without changing the flavor.
- Skip the milk: You can replace the milk with apple juice or orange juice if you prefer.
- Supplement with nuts and seeds: Add peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, or flax seeds, chia seeds, or hemp seeds. They all add great plant-based protein and fiber!
- Sweeten it up: While I think the strawberries and ripe bananas create a perfectly sweet strawberry banana smoothie with milk, you may want to add some honey, maple syrup or agave syrup. Add a little at a time and taste as you go.

How to Make This Strawberry Banana Smoothie
- Add the bananas, strawberries, yogurt, and milk to the pitcher of a blender.
- Blend until smooth and creamy.
Tips for Making This Strawberry Banana Smoothie
- Freeze the banana ahead of time. The frozen banana makes the smoothie cold and creamy. There’s no need to also freeze the strawberries as that would result in an overly thick smoothie that may not be drinkable.
- Use a high speed blender. The higher powered blender helps create a perfectly smooth drink. But if you don’t have a high speed blender, it’s still possible to make a great strawberry banana smoothie with yogurt! Just stir it every once in a while with a long spoon and blend for an extra minute or two to ensure no chunks are left behind.
- Don’t use ice. Since we’re using frozen bananas, there’s no need for ice. Plus, when the ice starts melting, the smoothie can be watered down.
- Drink your smoothie right away. The texture, taste, and color are all best right after it’s blended.
Frequently Asked Questions
I recommend drinking this smoothie immediately after making it for the best texture and taste. However, it is possible to store leftovers. Just place them in an airtight jar or container and refrigerate. You can also try adding a squeeze of lemon juice or lime juice to help prevent the fruit from oxidizing.
It will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Yes, you can freeze this smoothie! Place it in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. To thaw, move to the fridge and thaw overnight. Stir before serving.
Your strawberries might not have been quite ripe enough or you may have a variety that is less sweet. To sweeten up your smoothie, drizzle in a little honey or pure maple syrup. Start with just a little at a time, because a little goes a long way.
Sometimes a few too many berries and bananas can end up making a yogurt too thick to blend properly. To thin it out, just add a little milk and blend again until the consistency is to your liking.
This strawberry banana smoothie is a back-to-basics smoothie that is simple and so good! Just 4 ingredients and a minute or two in the blender and you have the perfect breakfast drink or refreshing snack. Enjoy it as-is or use it as a base recipe to build upon. Either way, I think you’re going to love this strawberry banana protein smoothie!

Can I substitute Greek Yogurt with Laban?
I’m sure you could! You may need to adjust the amount of milk to accommodate the thickness of the Laban.
