Juice your Watermelon

When it’s watermelon season, I love making watermelon juice. The good thing about it is that you don’t need a juicer to make it!

I just blend watermelon on its own (or with mint and lime juice, like in this recipe) to make a really refreshing drink that’s so good for summer! We drink it straight from the blender, but if I have time, I like to take the extra 2-3 minutes to strain it to make it smooth!

Happy Cooking!

Watermelon Juice Ingredients

Ingredients for recipe: fresh mint, lime, cold water, and seedless watermelon.
  • Watermelon: Make sure to buy a seedless watermelon!
  • Mint: Use fresh mint leaves, not dried.
  • Lime: You’ll need just the lime juice, but for extra lime flavor, you could add the zest from one lime.
  • Water: Sometimes I use more or less water than the recipe calls for. That’s because some watermelons are juicier than others. I recommend adding just a splash at a time until you get the right consistency.

Ingredients

  • 8-10 cups diced seedless watermelon chilled (about 4 pound watermelon)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 6 fresh mint leaves
  • cold water as needed for blending

Instructions

  • Add the diced watermelon, lime juice, and mint leaves to a blender. If the mixture is too thick to circulate, add the water a splash at a time just until it blends freely.
  • Blend until completely smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides if needed.
  • Pour the juice through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing gently with a spoon. Chill for at least 30 minutes, or serve right away over ice.

Notes

Storage: Kept in an airtight container in the fridge, the watermelon juice will last for up to 3 days.

Recipe Variation

  • Add strawberries. You could add up to a cup of hulled strawberries to this juice before blending!
  • Stir in rose water. When we make Mint Lemonade in Lebanon, we always add rose water with it and it’s something I started doing with this recipe, too. Just 1 teaspoon goes a long way.

Recipe Tips

  1. Make sure to cut away the watermelon rind. This is the pale, white-ish part of the watermelon. It’s tougher and you want to cut it off before blending the watermelon.
  2. Make sure to chill the juice. This will allow the flavors to meld! If you have to drink this watermelon juice with mint right away, serve it over ice.
  3. Don’t skip the straining. I know it seems like it’s not necessary, but it makes a huge difference in the consistency of the juice. It removes the pulp and makes it taste like something from a juice bar!
