try My pistachio latte hot or cold!

One of my favorite pistachio recipes to make recently is a Pistachio Latte! It has just 3 ingredients (okay, 4 if you’re topping your drink with crushed pistachios) and it’s the best afternoon pick-me-up.

Right now, I like my pistachio latte hot since it’s chillier outside, but during the summer I’m definitely team iced pistachio latte. That’s why I’ll show you how to make both below!

Happy Cooking!

Pistachio Latte Ingredients

Ingredients for latte: espresso, pistachio cream and milk.
  • Pistachio cream: I make my own pistachio cream with just 4 ingredients, but you can use store-bought!
  • Espresso: You can use a single shot or a double shot for this pistachio latte recipe for extra caffeine.
  • Milk: Use any type of milk you like! Whole milk, oat milk, almond milk…whatever!
  • Crushed pistachios: For topping! You can crush shelled pistachios in a food processor or put them in a bag and whack them with something heavy like a rolling pin.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon pistachio cream plus more for serving
  • ½ cup ice if serving cold
  • 1 cup milk cold or hot
  • 1 ounce espresso
  • Crushed pistachios for serving

Instructions

Hot Pistachio Latte

  • Add pistachio cream to the bottom of a mug. Use a small spoon or spatula to spread it along the sides of the mug.
  • Brew espresso and pour it directly into the mug over the pistachio cream. Stir gently to combine.
  • Heat or steam milk until hot and frothy. Slowly pour it into the mug over the espresso.
  • Drizzle a little extra pistachio cream on top and sprinkle with crushed pistachios. Serve immediately.

Iced Pistachio Latte

  • Add pistachio cream to the bottom of a clear 12-ounce glass. Spread it around the bottom and sides.
  • Fill the glass halfway with ice. Pour brewed espresso over the ice.
  • Pour cold milk over the espresso, stir gently. You can also froth the milk and carefully pour on top of the espresso to make it feel more decadent.
  • Top with a drizzle of pistachio cream and crushed pistachios. Serve immediately with a straw or spoon.

Notes

  • My Top Tip: If I want to make this latte feel like I’m truly drinking something from a coffee shop, I’ll froth the milk! You can do this for hot milk with the steam wand of an espresso machine or with an electric frother. For cold milk, a handheld frother will do the trick!
  • Storage: This latte is best enjoyed immediately!

Recipe Tips

  1. Use a clear mug/glass. While this won’t change how the drink tastes, I love how it looks! Plus, you can see where there’s still pistachio butter to mix into and drink as you’re sipping.
  2. Froth the milk first. If I want to make this latte feel like I’m truly drinking something from a coffee shop, I’ll froth the milk! You can do this for hot milk with the steam wand of an espresso machine or with an electric frother. For cold milk, a handheld frother will do the trick!
  3. Amp up the pistachio flavor. For even more pistachio-ness, you could add a little pistachio syrup to the latte!

FAQs

Can I make this latte with coffee instead of espresso?

I wouldn’t! Because espresso is more concentrated than coffee, you need just an ounce of it to make this latte. You’d need a lot more coffee, which would change the flavor of the drink! (It also wouldn’t be a latte.)

Do I have to wait for the espresso to cool down before adding it for an iced latte?

Nope! You don’t have to. Adding the espresso over ice will cool it really quickly.

The pistachio cream I’m using is too thick to spread in the glass. What can I do?

If the pistachio cream is too thick, I’d add a little milk or water to thin it out! Try whisking in a teaspoon at a time until it’s the right consistency.
