Mango Papaya Smoothie is soo good!

I’m always into smoothies like this when the fruit is good, and I don’t want to do much else with it. Mango and papaya already make a lot of sense together, so there’s not much you need to add besides banana, a little coconut milk, and enough water to get it blending.

This mango papaya smoothie is simple, cold, and easy to adjust depending on how thick you want it. If the fruit is ripe, it pretty much takes care of itself.

Happy Cooking!

Mango Papaya Smoothie Ingredients

  • Papaya: Fresh or frozen work. If using fresh, the fruit should have a yellow-orange skin and give slightly when pressed. Green papaya won’t be sweet enough.
  • Mango: Again, fresh or frozen. If available, I like to use Ataulfo (also known as champagne mangoes). They are super sweet and less stringy than most mangoes. Learn how to cut a mango.
  • Banana: Freeze it ahead of time if possible. This is what gives the smoothie the creamy, milkshake-like texture. The riper the banana, the sweeter the smoothie will be. Brown-spotted bananas are ideal.
  • Canned coconut milk: I use light, but full-fat will give you a richer smoothie. Shake or stir the can before measuring; the fat separates, and you want it evenly distributed. You could use a carton of coconut milk, but the smoothie won’t be as thick.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups chopped papaya
  • 1 mango chopped
  • 1 banana
  • ½ cup canned light coconut milk
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Place all the ingredients in a high-speed blender, and blend for 60-120 seconds until you get a smooth and creamy texture.
  • Taste the smoothie, adding more milk or water if it is too thick. Pour into a cup or mason jar. Enjoy immediately, or store in fridge for up to 24 hours.

Notes

My Top Tip: Blend for the full 1 to 2 minutes. Papaya needs a decent amount of time to fully break down.
Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight mason jar. It will stay fresh for up to 24 hours. But ideally, it’s best to consume immediately after making
Equipment: I make my smoothies in my Vitamix. It has a “smoothie” button so it does all the work for me until the ingredients are well blended.

Recipe Variations

  • Boost with protein: Add a scoop of vanilla protein powder or 3 tablespoons of Greek yogurt. The yogurt will help balance out the sweetness.
  • Add some greens. Kale or spinach are good options, about a cup of packed leaves.
  • Add warming spices. A little fresh ginger works well here; add a 1/4-inch coin of sliced ginger or a pinch of cayenne to balance the tropical fruit flavors.
  • Use it as a base for chia pudding. Once blended, mix with 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, then divide into individual serving cups and let set up overnight in the fridge.

Recipe Tips

  1. Control the sweetness. Papaya, mango, and banana can all be naturally very sweet. If the smoothie is too sweet, balance it out with a pinch of salt and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
  2. Help the blender. If your blender is struggling to blend this mixture, start at a low speed and add water one tablespoon at a time to help move things along.
  3. Don’t add ice to the smoothie. For me ice usually waters down the flavor of a smoothie, so instead i just make sure at least one of the fruits is frozen, and that not only makes it a cool treat but also creates a creamier texture.

Just made this smoothie- so good! 😊 I searched for this recipe to use up fruit that was a tad overripe and about to go bad. Since none of my fruit was frozen I used a couple ice cubes blended in, the smoothie still came out pretty creamy and delicious.

Hi…I want to try this, do the fruits and yogurt (if I decide to add it) lose any nutritional value when blended versus eating whole?

    1. Yumna J. says:

No, fruits and yogurt maintain their nutritional value when blended. I hope you’ll try out the smoothie!
