Cook Carrots on the Grill!
Grilled carrots might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of cooking veggies on the grill, but they’ve become one of my favorite sides to make.
They get just the right amount of char, stay tender in the middle, and the combo of honey, garlic, and a squeeze of lemon at the end makes it really hard for them to stop eating! I like to serve them next to grilled chicken or fish, but they’re really great with just about anything.
Plus, tossing everything together takes five minutes, and you can’t beat that.
Happy Cooking!

Grilled Carrots Ingredients
- Carrots: Try choosing carrots that are about the same size, so they cook at the same speed.
- Oil: I like the flavor of olive oil, so that’s what I use for this recipe. Another high-heat oil, like avocado, would also work.
- Honey: If you don’t have honey, use a tablespoon of maple syrup.
- Spices: Garlic powder, salt, and black pepper are all you need!
- Lemon: Slice one into wedges for serving.
How to Make Grilled Carrots
Grilled Carrot Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 pound carrots peeled
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions
- Place the carrots in a large bowl. Add the oil, honey, garlic powder, salt, and pepper and use your hands to toss the carrots.
- Heat the gas grill to medium-high (around 400°F). Brush the grill grates lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
- Place the carrots directly on the grill. Grill for about 10–15 minutes, turning every few minutes until they are tender and have grill marks without burning.
- Remove from the grill and serve with lemon wedges.

Recipe Variations
- Toss the carrots with a sauce. While I think these grilled carrots are delicious as-is, after cooking you could toss them with chimichurri or pesto!
- Make them bbq. I honestly think these carrots would be great brushed with bbq sauce and served in a hotdog bun.
- Add cheese and fresh herbs. What doesn’t taste better with cheese and herbs? (I’ll wait!) I want to try adding crumbled feta or goat cheese and chopped cilantro.
Recipe Tips
- Slice the carrots in half for faster cooking. This will depend on the size of your carrots, but for whole, large carrots, I prefer to slice them to get a flat surface for even, quicker cooking.
- Peel the carrots. Sometimes, the carrot peel tastes bitter, which is why my recipe calls for peeling them!
- Turn the carrots on the grill often. Because carrots naturally have more sugar, they burn easier at high temperatures. That’s why you should turn and check them often while they’re cooking!
- Pre-heat your grill first. If you’re using a gas grill, this will take 10-15 minutes. Hot grill grates actually help keep food from sticking to them.
