One of my favorite ways to enjoy yogurt is to layer it with fruit and granola in a clear cup and make a parfait. There’s something that feels so fancy about the layers that can really elevate a humble tub of Greek yogurt and whatever fruit you have in your fridge. My favorite combination is to use plain whole milk Greek yogurt, fresh strawberries, blueberries, and granola. It’s so good to enjoy for breakfast, dessert or a snack.

Why This is So Good
- Easy: It really comes down to layering fruit, yogurt and granola. What makes a parfait a parfait is the layers, so you can keep it simple with two layers or add more based on what you like.
- Versatile: A fruit and yogurt parfait is one of the best way to clean out to fridge for me. I love making it as an after school snack for the kids because it feels like such a treat while it allows me to use up fruit, yogurt and/or granola that no one’s eating.
- Festive: I mean look at those layers! This is a healthy snack that can be made for different holidays. Think red, white and blue for the 4th of July with blueberries, strawberries and yogurt or orange; black and white for Halloween with mangoes, blackberries, cocoa powder mixed with yogurt; or red and white for Valentine’s Day with raspberries, strawberries and yogurt
Ingredients to Make Fruit & Yogurt Parfaits
- Berries: These are the fruits I chose to use for this yogurt parfait but you can use any fruit you’d like.
- Yogurt: The recipe uses plain Greek yogurt, but it also works well with vanilla Greek yogurt, regular yogurt, or plant-based yogurt.
- Sugar: To macerate the strawberries. You can use any type of granulated sugar or switch to honey or maple syrup. You can also skip the sugar if you prefer the parfait not to be sweetened.
- Granola: Granola adds a nice crunchy texture. Use your favorite store bought granola, or try it with my Cranberry Almond Granola or Chocolate Granola.
Popular Additions
- Nuts: Any kind of nut can be added to this parfait depending on what you have and what you like. I love adding walnuts, pecans and cashews for an extra crunch in the granola layer.
- Honey: You can drizzle the honey on top of the fruit and yogurt parfait or you can whisk the honey into the yogurt before layering it.
- Peanut butter and/or jelly: Have you ever swirled them into yogurt? They can really transform the yogurt and add so much texture and flavor. If you’re adding them, definitely use some fresh strawberries and peanuts if you can in the parfait layers.
- Chocolate: You can add chocolate chips or chocolate chunks to the layers, but you can also whisk cocoa powder into the yogurt to make it more chocolatey.
How to Make Fruit & Yogurt Parfait
To make a fruit and yogurt parfait, just pick a clear cup with a wide mouth to make it easier to eat from it and start layering your ingredients. I like to sweeten the fruit layers sometimes to take this from a breakfast/snack idea to more of a treat for dessert.

Tips for Making the Best Yogurt Parfait
- User clear cups: What’s beautiful about parfaits is seeing the colorful layers alternate between fruit, yogurt and granola. Using clear cups makes it more visually appealing.
- Make sure the yogurt is cold before using: If the yogurt is at room temperature, it may easily bleed into the other layers, affecting the presentation.
- Save the granola for the top: If you don’t plan to serve these parfaits immediately, you can consider not adding the granola until right before serving and then just placing on top so that they don’t soften and get soggy.
- Don’t skip macerating the strawberries. This helps to soften them and will also help to make them sweeter.
Frequently Asked Questions
These fruit yogurt parfaits are best enjoyed fairly soon after making them so that the layers stay separated, but they will keep well for a day or two covered in the fridge. You can macerate the strawberries overnight, so all you have to do is build the layers.
It’s best to use fresh fruits for this granola parfait. Frozen fruits contain more water and their colors will bleed into the yogurt once they are thawed.
These are perfectly festive for the 4th July and memorial day, but you can easily make these with other fresh fruits if you like. Bananas, mango, clementines and peaches all work great.
