Make my No-Bake Halloween Chex Mix!

Every Halloween, I make a big bowl of Halloween Chex Mix, and it disappears faster than the candy. It’s a mix of salty and sweet Chex, pretzels, kettle corn, a few marshmallows, and some Halloween-colored candies thrown in for good measure.

The best part about this Halloween snack mix is how easy it is to customize. I just toss in whatever I have around, sometimes candy corn, sometimes chocolate chips, and it always works. It’s fun for the kids to help with too, and it makes a great thing to snack on while waiting for trick-or-treaters or watching Halloween movies.

Happy Cooking!

Halloween Chex Mix Ingredients

Ingredients for recipe in individual bowls: chocolate chips, candy pieces, mini marshmallows, candy corn, pretzels, popcorn, chex, and peanut butter chips.
  • Rice Chex cereal: Corn Chex, Cheerios, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch would also work.
  • Pretzel snaps: You can also use mini pretzel twists, Bugles, or bagel chips.
  • Kettle corn: Regular popcorn or caramel corn works great, too.
  • Mini marshmallows: If you don’t like marshmallows, dried raisins or dried cranberries are nice options.
  • M&Ms: You can also use Reese’s Pieces or chocolate-covered raisins.
  • Butterscotch chips: White chocolate chips work great, too.
  • Milk chocolate chips: Or use dark chocolate chips for a less sweet, more intense flavor.
  • Candy corn: If you’re not a fan, you can swap it out for Skittles, jelly beans, gummy bears, or gummy worms. Or, just skip it.

Notes

  • My Top Tip: Even though they’re all shelf-stable, make sure your ingredients are fresh. One stale item can change the texture and flavor of your Halloween Chex Mix.
  • Storage: Store the Halloween Chex Mix in an airtight container or resealable bag. It will stay fresh at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Recipe Variations

  • Add nuts. Stir in a cup of almonds or cashews for an extra crunch.
  • Give it a sweet finish. Sprinkle the Halloween Chex Mix with a cinnamon–sugar mixture.
  • Make it gluten-free. Swap out the regular pretzels for gluten-free ones, and make sure you use gluten-free cereal.

Recipe Tips

  1. Use fresh ingredients. Even though they’re all shelf-stable, make sure your ingredients are fresh. One stale item can change the texture and flavor of your Halloween Chex Mix.
  2. Stir gently but thoroughly. Give your monster munch a good stir with a rubber spatula, but don’t go overboard. You don’t want to crush your Chex or break your pretzels!
  3. Taste as you go. Need more salt? Toss in some extra pretzels. Missing some sweetness? A few more chocolate chips never hurt!
