Pasta chips are the latest TikTok sensation made with cooked pasta that’s tossed with olive oil, parmesan cheese and spices and then air fried until crispy! They come out so crunchy, perfect for dipping with your favorite sauce for a fun appetizer idea!
Ingredients & substitutions
- Pasta: You can use any pasta of choice. Think of something long and large that you can grab with your fingers and dip. Rigatoni, bowtie and penne are popular choices.
- Olive oil: After cooking the pasta, you’ll want to toss it in just a tablespoon of olive oil to help the pasta chips get crispy in the air fryer.
- Parmesan cheese: While this is optional, the cheese adds great flavor and gets crispy in the air fryer as well. You can think about about soft cheeses that grate well like Gouda or fontina.
- Spices: You can use any spices you’d like. For an Italian inspired flavor, try garlic powder and Italian seasoning or oregano.
- Dip ingredients: Crumbled feta cheese, Greek yogurt, garlic and olive oil. You can swap with any other dip you’d like!
RECIPE VIDEO TUTORIAL
How to make pasta chips
- Cook that pasta al dente in a pot of heavily salted water.
- Drain the pasta and transfer it to a large mixing bowl or back into the pot.
- Add olive oil, parmesan cheese and the spices you’re using.
- Toss well to combine to make sure the pasta is coated with the oil, cheese and spices.
- Air fry until golden and crispy, shaking the basket a few times.
- Remove from the air fryer and allow to cool slightly before enjoying!
How to make the whipped feta dip
- Add the feta cheese, greek yogurt and garlic to a food processor or blender.
- Blend until it’s smooth and creamy without any lumps.
Tips for making the recipe
- Cook the pasta al dente. Make sure to not fully cook the pasta and err on the side of al dente since the pasta will continue cooking in the air fryer.
- Don’t use too much oil. The beauty of these air fryer pasta chips is that they don’t need a lot of oil. 1 teaspoon or up to 1 tablespoon is plenty and will make them perfectly crispy!
- Cook the pasta in batches. Depending on the size of the air fryer basket, you may need to separate the pasta into two batches to avoid overcrowding, which can affect the results.
- Shake the air fryer basket a few times. While cooking the pasta chips, make sure to shake the basket to allow all the surface areas to get crispy.

Delicious! A delightful snack!
So glad you liked it, Ann! Thank you!!
It was the best
Thank you so much, Azriel!
Can the leftover pasta chips be stored for later and if so, what is the best way to store them ?
Hi Donna, you can store leftovers in an airtight container. You’ll want to make sure the chips have cooled completely before transferring them to a container. Otherwise, the moisture will cause the pasta chips to get soggy. You’ll have to let me know what you think once you make them!
it tastes like dried cat food
I am sorry to hear that. You can definitely change it up with different spices!
How do you know what dried cat food tastes like
I think u just cant cook mate
I don’t have an air fryer right now … can I use the regular oven?
If you turn on your convection oven, you can bake the pasta chips at 400°F for 20-25 minutes. They won’t come out as crisp but they will still work.
Excited to try this!! Love all your videos and recipes
Can’t wait to hear what you think! Thank you!!
Burnt to a crisp. I air fried mine for 10 minutes (2 minutes less than the minimum time suggested in the recipe) and they were burnt to the point of being inedible. If I ever try this again I will probably do a lower temperature and start with 7 minutes or so. The feta dip however, was amazing.
Definitely do as the time can vary by air fryer. So glad you enjoyed the dip!
I used whole wheat rotini and cooked them for the minimum time on the box (9 minutes). I needed a little more than a tablespoon of olive oil to coat the pasta. I air fried for 17 minutes and let them sit for 5 minutes before removing them. They really got nice and crisp. I’ll definitely make them again but I’ll use more seasoning because they were kind of bland.
Glad it turned out crispy! Yes, definitely go ahead and add as much spice or whichever spices you like.
I never heard pasta chips Yes I eat pasta like regular pasta for lunch but pasta chips I think I am going to try it
A fun way to switch it up!
Eh, this recipe is alright. The taste (once it cooked) was decent, I’ll definitely opt for Italian seasoning again. However, it took close to 30 minutes to actually crisp up. I have a top of the line air fryer and followed the recipe explicitly down to the type of pasta. The dip was just… fine. If the time in the recipe was accurate and the flavour of the dip was a little better I’d give it a higher rating but as it is, I can’t.
Thank you for your honest review! Not sure why it took that long to cook, but different air fryers can definitely contribute to that.
Actually I recommend using rotini for this and doing them in the oven instead. It takes a little tweaking.
Hi Yumna
I have an actifry with paddle can I use it to do this recipe or it should be done without a paddle ?
I have yet to try it in that, but it should work. I also think it would work best without the paddle.
Yes!! I used gluten free pasta, and the oven, and it worked! I can’t wait to make more 😁
Yay!! So many great flavors you can enjoy!
Can this be done in the oven?
Yes! You can bake the pasta chips at 400°F for 20-25 minutes. They won’t come out as crisp but they will still work.
Did not live up to the hype unfortunately. I made the salt and vinegar version. Even with extra vinegar and pouring more vinegar on once done, there was a lack of flavor. The chips were soft in some spots and not as crispy as I expected. A pass for me.
I’m sorry to hear that. For the crisp, it might depend on the brand, and it’s important to shake half way through.
Well obviously it will taste bland.Salt and vinegar has practically no flavor.Keep in mind that this is pasta not potatoes. They wouldn’t have been so bland if you had actually followed the recipe correctly!
So you change the recipe and then give it 1 star?
We ate these all the time while growing up. Just plain with salt as an afternoon snack. They would sell them in my neighborhood and they came in paper cones stuffed with them. Back then they would let the cooked pasta dry out in the sun for about a whole day, then deep fry it. I will try the air fryer and no drying down time. Perfect!
What a special memory! Excited to hear what you think about this version!
I’m just wondering what I could use to make the dip if I don’t have a food processor?
You can also use a blender!
Omg this trend is totally worth it! Loved it! Made it with Pink Harvest Farms 100% red lentil fusilli for a healthy version with some simple salt pepper red chilly powder and it was delicious!
