Ingredients & substitutions

  • Pasta: You can use any pasta of choice. Think of something long and large that you can grab with your fingers and dip. Rigatoni, bowtie and penne are popular choices.
  • Olive oil: After cooking the pasta, you’ll want to toss it in just a tablespoon of olive oil to help the pasta chips get crispy in the air fryer.
  • Parmesan cheese: While this is optional, the cheese adds great flavor and gets crispy in the air fryer as well. You can think about about soft cheeses that grate well like Gouda or fontina.
  • Spices: You can use any spices you’d like. For an Italian inspired flavor, try garlic powder and Italian seasoning or oregano.
  • Dip ingredients: Crumbled feta cheese, Greek yogurt, garlic and olive oil. You can swap with any other dip you’d like!

Tips for making the recipe

  1. Cook the pasta al dente. Make sure to not fully cook the pasta and err on the side of al dente since the pasta will continue cooking in the air fryer.
  2. Don’t use too much oil. The beauty of these air fryer pasta chips is that they don’t need a lot of oil. 1 teaspoon or up to 1 tablespoon is plenty and will make them perfectly crispy!
  3. Cook the pasta in batches. Depending on the size of the air fryer basket, you may need to separate the pasta into two batches to avoid overcrowding, which can affect the results.
  4. Shake the air fryer basket a few times. While cooking the pasta chips, make sure to shake the basket to allow all the surface areas to get crispy.

  3. Donna says:

Can the leftover pasta chips be stored for later and if so, what is the best way to store them ?

    1. Yumna J. says:

Hi Donna, you can store leftovers in an airtight container. You’ll want to make sure the chips have cooled completely before transferring them to a container. Otherwise, the moisture will cause the pasta chips to get soggy. You’ll have to let me know what you think once you make them!

  4. azra says:

    1. Yumna Jawad says:

Can’t wait to hear what you think! Thank you!!

  7. Allyson says:

Burnt to a crisp. I air fried mine for 10 minutes (2 minutes less than the minimum time suggested in the recipe) and they were burnt to the point of being inedible. If I ever try this again I will probably do a lower temperature and start with 7 minutes or so. The feta dip however, was amazing.

    1. Yumna Jawad says:

Definitely do as the time can vary by air fryer. So glad you enjoyed the dip!

  8. Lori says:

I used whole wheat rotini and cooked them for the minimum time on the box (9 minutes). I needed a little more than a tablespoon of olive oil to coat the pasta. I air fried for 17 minutes and let them sit for 5 minutes before removing them. They really got nice and crisp. I’ll definitely make them again but I’ll use more seasoning because they were kind of bland.

    1. Yumna Jawad says:

Glad it turned out crispy! Yes, definitely go ahead and add as much spice or whichever spices you like.

  9. Robert says:

I never heard pasta chips Yes I eat pasta like regular pasta for lunch but pasta chips I think I am going to try it

    1. Yumna Jawad says:

A fun way to switch it up!

  10. Emily says:

Eh, this recipe is alright. The taste (once it cooked) was decent, I’ll definitely opt for Italian seasoning again. However, it took close to 30 minutes to actually crisp up. I have a top of the line air fryer and followed the recipe explicitly down to the type of pasta. The dip was just… fine. If the time in the recipe was accurate and the flavour of the dip was a little better I’d give it a higher rating but as it is, I can’t.

    1. Yumna Jawad says:

Thank you for your honest review! Not sure why it took that long to cook, but different air fryers can definitely contribute to that.

    2. Elle says:

Actually I recommend using rotini for this and doing them in the oven instead. It takes a little tweaking.
