Ginger tea is soo good, especially for Sniffles!

I started making this ginger tea anytime someone in my house so much as sniffles, and now it’s just part of our week. It’s strong, spicy in the best way, and I can feel the warmth immediately. I slice fresh ginger and turmeric right into the pot with lemon, let it simmer long enough to turn a deep golden color, and that’s it. I’ll drop in a little honey if I’m feeling it, and sometimes black pepper or a touch of coconut oil to help the turmeric absorb better.
Happy Cooking!

Ginger Tea Ingredients

- Ginger: Look for a large nob of ginger root if you can (rather than powdered ginger). No need to peel!
- Turmeric: You can use powdered turmeric for this tea recipe, but I prefer fresh turmeric root.
- Lemon: I always use use fresh lemon juice rather than bottled!
- Coconut oil: I like adding a little coconut oil to my tea for creaminess, but it’s definitely optional!
- Black pepper: This is also optional, but I love the way black pepper pairs with the turmeric in this tea.
How to Make Ginger Tea

Ginger Tea Recipe
Ingredients
- 3-4 inch ginger root washed thinly sliced
- 3-4 inch turmeric root washed thinly sliced
- ½ lemon sliced
- 8 cups water
- honey optional
- ⅛ teaspoon black pepper optional
- ½ tablespoon coconut oil optional
Instructions
- Place the sliced ginger, turmeric and lemon in a small saucepan. Add the water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then simmer for 20-25 minutes to deepen the color. Strain and serve immediately with honey, if desired.
Notes
- My Top Tip: Use a pot that doesn’t stain easily. The pigment in the turmeric is really strong and can easily stain anything it touches!
- Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can reheat it on the stovetop or in the microwave (or you can enjoy it cold or iced).
- Freezing: This tea is best enjoyed fresh or refrigerated. If you plan on freezing, it’s best to do it in small portions. Let the tea come to room temperature and pour it carefully into silicone or regular ice cube trays. Once frozen, place the cubes into a freezer-safe resealable bag to prevent the tea cubes from absorbing freezer odors.

Recipe Tips

- Drink this ginger turmeric tea as soon as you make it for the best benefits. All the ingredients in this tea are most potent when it’s fresh!

Serving Ideas
- Serve with baked goods. This tea is a great accompaniment with a homemade baked good like lemon ricotta cake, vegan lemon bars, or oatmeal breakfast bars.
FAQs
Turmeric has an earthy and bitter taste to it, but in this tea, it’s balanced out with the other ingredients. It’s zingy and tangy, thanks to the lemon and ginger. I like to add a teaspoon of honey for sweetness too, but you can leave it out if you prefer.

Comments
Help please. Is it 3/4 inch of turmeric and ginger or 3 – 4 inches (3 to 4 inches) of each please? Marie
Hi Marie, it’s 3 to 4 inches of turmeric and ginger each! Fractions will be displayed with a dash (1/2, 3/4, etc.). Hope that helps!
Very nice, très bon gout même sans miel
Thank you!
Does the water need to be brought to a boil to extract the benefits? Wondering if I can just use the hot water from my coffee maker without the coffee.
Yes, its needs to be brought to a boil to extract the flavor.
What is your recipe for the Ginger Tumeric shots you made for your kids and you today? Please, and thank you.
Hi there! It’s very similar to this, but I didn’t add as much water and did not heat the mixture before drinking it
Excellent 👌

Recipe for ginger and turmeric tea for inflammation
can you drink an 8oz glass more than once a day. thanks nice recipe
Hi Ellen, I don’t see why you couldn’t. If you find that it is upsetting your stomach, then, of course, I would go back to one 8oz glass. Hope you enjoy!
I love how you explained everything, well understood
Thank you!
I want to use the black pepper and coconut oil in this recipe to get the most benefit from the tea.
When is it best to add these?
Should I simmer them with the ginger, turmeric and lemon? Or add them after the simmer is complete?
The recipe isn’t clear about this.
Thank you
If you’re using black pepper or coconut oil, add when serving.
Thank you so much for sharing🙏 I was skeptic about the taste and both my wife and I enjoyed it very much! It helped her chest congestion and cough and it’s also helping me with inflammation I’ve picked up from an auto accident🙌🏼
You’re so welcome! So glad you both enjoyed!
Awesome!
Thank you!!
I’m gonna try this recipe and see how it works.
Let me know what you think!
Thank you for the recipe. It is delicious and feels so good going down. My husband has had some chest/breathing problems and it actually has helped him.
You’re so welcome! Glad to hear it helped!!
I was told by one of my customers..(I work retail and on my feet alot)
That peach, ginger and turmeric tea was good to help with inflammation.
Then I googled it and found your site.
I was wondering your outlook on this?
I bought some.. only used a couple days so far.
My customer said she used a bit of honey instead of sugar..or sometimes just drinks as is..
And she must make it in small quantities..because she also refrigerated for later..
I have arthritis in my knee and I was told my hip wasn’t the best.. and was recommended replacement surgery.
So anything that will help reduce this and keep me from surgery will be greatly welcomed!!
Thank you..
This recipe has great natural anti-inflammatory properties and is high in antioxidants, but I would definitely consult your primary physician in regards to your arthritis, and I wouldn’t use this tea as a replacement to prescribed medication.
WHERE CAN I BUY TURMERIC AT
In the spices aisle of the grocery store!
How often can you drink this recipe at the moment I’m using 4grm of ginger a day for arthritis I’ve heard good reviews for turmeric and ginger but not together
I don’t think there’s a limit on how often you can drink this recipe! To be safe, I’d suggest you contact your primary physician about it.
I literally prepared this recipe last night and to actually run across this recipe means I’m on the right track. I heard this recipe supposed to help with inflammation so I bought all fresh ingredients I tried the drink after my shower surprisingly it was really refreshing the ginger stood out the most. Hi Thomas! Sorry that was a typo, but I just fixed it. It’s only 10 minutes. 🙂
