How should you cut up a kiwi? It depends on where you will use this sweet-tart green (or yellow!) fruit. Below, I show you three easy ways to prepare the fruit with simple knife cuts, star cuts with a knife or even scooping the fruit with a spoon!
Small but mighty, two egg-sized kiwis have as much potassium as a banana and 240 percent of a day’s vitamin C, along with small amounts of vitamin A, calcium, and iron and a healthy dose of fiber. Fun fact: kiwi is also called the Chinese gooseberry. More fun facts: the tiny seeds and the furry skin are edible.

How to cut a kiwi three ways
Take a small paring knife and dice the kiwi into little pieces – perfect for topping your morning’s yogurt. Or use a spoon to scoop out an intact oval to slice into beautiful rounds which is perfect for placing on fruit tarts. Or finally, make a fancy cut destined to be the diva of any fruit bowl.
Basic knife method
Place the kiwi on a cutting board on its long side. Using a small knife, slice off both ends of the kiwi. Flip the kiwi so that i is standing upright and use the knife to cut away the peel in a downward motion, rotating the kiwi as you remove the skin.
Slice the kiwi vertically in half and then into wedges. Or slice the kiwi into round sections or into smaller dices.

Spoon method
Every wonder how pastry chefs get those perfectly round slices of kiwi? As above, place the kiwi on a cutting board on its long side. Using a small knife, slice off both ends of the kiwi.
Now, insert a small teaspoon spoon near the edge of the kiwi. Push the spoon against the side of the skin and rotate it around staying as close to the skin as possible. Once the spoon has made a complete circle around the kiwi, you can easily slide out the peeled kiwi.
Slice the kiwi vertically in half and then into wedges, and then a smaller dice. Or slice the kiwi into pastry ready round coins.
Star cut with knife method
Once again, place the kiwi on a cutting board on its long side.Insert the point of your knife into the skin of the kiwi halfway through and begin to make diagonal slices.
Continue to do this up-and-down slice around the entire kiwi. Finally, pull the halves apart and separate.
Looks fancy, but it’s so easy, and remember you can eat the skin! It is not that much different than eating a peach!

Yes, you can add the kiwi in advance! In this case, I’d add it the night before or the day of.
