Ingredients

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter cubed
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ginger
  • teaspoon salt
  • 6 medium apples about 2 ½ pounds, peeled and sliced into ¼-inch slices

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Place the butter in an 8 x 11-inch baking dish and set in the oven for 5 minutes, until the butter is melted.
  • Remove the dish from the oven, add brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger and salt and toss to combine. Add the apples and toss again to evenly coat the apples with the butter mixture.
  • Bake for 40 minutes, tossing halfway through, until the apples are soft, but retain their shape.

Notes

Tip: Use firm apples for the best results. Mealy or overly ripe apples don't hold up well to baking, resulting in an unpleasant texture once baked.
