Total Time30 minutes mins
Servings: 4 servings
- 3-4 inch ginger root washed thinly sliced
- 3-4 inch turmeric root washed thinly sliced
- ½ lemon sliced
- 8 cups water
- honey optional
- ⅛ teaspoon black pepper optional
- ½ tablespoon coconut oil optional
Place the sliced ginger, turmeric and lemon in a small saucepan. Add the water.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then simmer for 20-25 minutes to deepen the color. Strain and serve immediately with honey, if desired.
- My Top Tip: Use a pot that doesn't stain easily. The pigment in the turmeric is really strong and can easily stain anything it touches!
- Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can reheat it on the stovetop or in the microwave (or you can enjoy it cold or iced).
- Freezing: This tea is best enjoyed fresh or refrigerated. If you plan on freezing, it’s best to do it in small portions. Let the tea come to room temperature and pour it carefully into silicone or regular ice cube trays. Once frozen, place the cubes into a freezer-safe resealable bag to prevent the tea cubes from absorbing freezer odors.
The nutrition label is for the tea only and does not include the optional honey, coconut oil, or black pepper.
