Easy Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
Breakfast smoothies are the ultimate in convenience dining. This Easy Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie proves that you can enjoy a nutritious beverage for breakfast, but also savor the delicious flavors of peanut butter, banana and a hint of chocolate for your first meal of the day, too.
Whip this up in moments, and savor an amazing amount of nutrition as you do. Keep in mind that it does require a frozen banana. I make a point of keeping a good supply of frozen bananas on hand at all times. Just be sure you note which are ripe and which at the less ripened stage. They behave differently even when frozen, and this recipe does well with a frozen banana that wasn’t over ripe when put into the deep freeze.
The banana adds that delicious, ice cream like texture, and that nice amount of sweetness and flavor. It brings the high potassium, fiber and satiety that only a banana seems to deliver. The almond milk is used as a nice base and it too comes with an amazing array of nutrients. High in calcium and protein, it also has a lot of magnesium, iron and vitamins E and C.
While you could switch the peanut butter out for another nut butter, this recipe really benefits from the stronger flavor. Use an all-natural peanut butter, and one that is without any sort of added sweeteners. The goal here is to have a peanut butter in which the flavor really shines through. This ingredient brings even more protein, but also more fiber, potassium and lots of healthy fats and antioxidants.
I like to top this with a few chocolate chips or carob chips to give it the look of a classic milkshake and that little hint of naughtiness that only this sort of breakfast smoothie delivers.
